“I no longer need to balance on the walls and plan each footstep on the stairs.”

Ready to rediscover the joy of movement?

At Somatic Reawakenings, we’re all about personalized journeys to ease chronic pain and boost your mobility. We work with clients in private sessions and group classes, as described below.

Private Sessions

In a Clinical Somatic Education session, whether online or in person, the spotlight is on your unique health concerns. I’ll assess your movement patterns and pinpoint areas holding stress-induced muscle tension – the root cause of discomfort. Through hands-on clinical somatic education techniques, you’ll expand your awareness of habituated muscle tension (Sensory Motor Amnesia) and learn gentle practices to release it, enhancing muscle function and easing discomfort. Sessions, conducted on a table, chair, or standing, offer personalized guidance, ensuring a swift transformation in your movement patterns.

I offer an initial 90-minute session followed by 75-minute customized sessions tailored to your specific concerns. Post-session, you will receive a detailed home practice. Starting with weekly sessions for 2-3 weeks, we’ll gradually space them out – crucial for developing breath and movement awareness. Consistent daily practice empowers your brain and muscles to relearn healthy movement patterns, reducing tension and pain. Your follow-up sessions are scheduled based on how you feel, putting you in control of your well-being journey.

Virtual Sessions

Not in Calgary? We can still work together via Zoom sessions. And whether online or in person, Alana provides a safe space for tailored sessions addressing your unique health concerns.

Client Testimonials

“I am just coming back from my doctor; I had an ultrasound of my knee a few months ago and she said my knee had inflammation, etc., and physical therapy might help, but I said I don’t have any pain anymore. Then my doctor said, whatever you did helped your knee to heal, so your class absolutely worked.”

—Affy

“After each class, I felt better physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I also learned skills that, when practiced 🙂, improve my daily life. Thanks, Alana.”

—Randy Jo

“One of my favourite classes focuses on hips and legs. I once told Alana, ’I feel like the Tin Man and you provide the oil.’ Thank you, Alana, for teaching me how interrelated our body is and how to focus within to help regain movement and balance!”

—Wendy

Group Classes

Inspired by the teachings of Thomas Hanna, this gentle, safe, and effective mindful movement practice invites you to get curious as you deepen your internal awareness of where you are holding muscle tension that is contributing to your limited mobility and tight and tired muscles.

You will learn how to release muscle tension and restore healthy movement patterns which, in turn, will create improved coordination, balance, and posture to provide you with more choice and variation in the activities you would love to participate in.

Join us to uncover your tension hotspots and embrace self-care practices that empower fluid, joyful movement. Dive into the intricacies of stress reflexes, understanding their impact on your body’s harmony. Through deliberate, mindful somatic movements, you’ll release tension from the centre of your body, hips and shoulders, through to the periphery. Embrace your pain-free range of motion, building trust in the rejuvenating process.

You will also receive a typed pdf file of each class to support you in developing a guided home practice.
